Old paddling pool and petanque piste

Anyone for petanque?

This unusually shaped gravelled space was previously a paddling pool, installed in 1961 for the delight of children in the hot summer months. The site is now used for playing petanque, a game similar to bocce or boules.

The painted structure is the former pump house for the wading pool, and now provides storage and seating for the petanque players. Perhaps some of those children who once splashed around in the shallow water keep active now by returning here to play a different game.
