O-Bahn City Access Project

O-Bahn City Access Project

In 2015 the State Government announced a $160 million project to extend the O-Bahn busway from Hackney Road through the Park Lands into the city. The plan saw the O-Bahn tracks running under Kadlitpina, Rundle Road, and also the adjacent Rymill Park.

Despite protests from community groups, many of whom felt that the process of public consultation had not been respected or adhered to, the south-eastern corner of Kadlitpina was fenced off from the public for almost two years.

When work began in April 2016, close to 80 trees – many significant – were felled on either side of Rundle Road.  The project was intended to reduce O-Bahn travelling time by three and a half minutes.
