Some are as old as the 1880s. They include Moreton Bay figs, Carob, Canary Island Pine, Bunya Bunya, Hope Pine, Himalayan Cypress and also some olive trees.
As long ago as 1882 an Italian olive expert brought to Adelaide, Paolo Villanis catalogued all olive trees in the Park Lands. He recorded substantial olive groves, some 134 trees, in various locations along “both sides of Unley Road”, Today the few remaining olive trees have been incorporated within the surroundings of the bike track venue.
There are more substantial 19th century olive plantations in other parts of the Park Lands – especially Parks 7, 8, 15, 16 and 27.
